Mental illness in a parent profoundly complicates the custody process and daily parenting. Likewise, best interest issues regarding children, especially those with psychiatric disabilities, require a special focus on factors including parent capability, resources and support. For all parties in the family system, the divorce process is traumatic and further exacerbates psychiatric distress, whether the mental illness is experienced by parent or child. This workshop will provide clarity on the legal and family systems issues in these unique cases.
