The FAA is facing some turbulence, according to an Op-Ed in the New York Daily News. Executive Partner and Director of the Abrams Fensterman Transportation Law practice, Ethan Gerber argues that the agency is struggling to keep up with technological advancements and that its recent issues with their Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system (resulting in the grounding of all United States flights) are “simply unacceptable.” Gerber recognizes Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg’s efforts to address the outdated aviation infrastructure and calls on Congress to allocate funds for major improvements and necessary updates to the nation’s air transportation system. In the Op-Ed, Gerber shares a brief history of the NOTAM system and posits that the nation’s air transportation system is suffering the same fate as other infrastructure, including water treatment systems and roads and bridges.
