“Knockout Punch” Victory In Lawsuit Over Management Of Jiu-Jitsu Schools

Abrams Fensterman Partner Justin T. Kelton & Associate Amanda Small have secured a significant legal victory in a complex lawsuit centered around the management of multiple Brazilian Jiu Jitsu schools in Brooklyn, NY.

Abrams Fensterman’s client, a highly successful Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor and co-owner of the schools, was sued by his business partners who claimed that he should be forced to pay them a portion of his earnings from personal appearances, instructional videos, and other personal business ventures not connected to the parties’ brick-and-mortar jiu jitsu schools. Abrams Fensterman moved to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing that the complaint failed to state any viable legal claim, the plaintiffs had committed a wide array of misconduct and had “unclean hands,” and the plaintiffs lacked standing to bring claims that belonged to the parties’ business corporations and not to the plaintiffs individually. On July 8, 2024, the Court granted Abrams Fensterman’s motion and dismissed the lawsuit in its entirety.

“Our client is an extremely talented fighter, and we were honored that he chose us to fight for him in court. We are pleased that the Court agreed with our arguments and dismissed this lawsuit at the outset.”

– Justin T. Kelton
