Caraline G. Mikkelsen is an Associate at Abrams Fensterman, LLP and a member of the firm’s Mental Health Law Practice Group, in the Lake Success office. Ms. Mikkelsen focuses her practice on Mental Health Law and Guardianship Law, representing hospitals in Mental Hygiene Law Article 9 matters, as well as private clients, health care facilities, and court appointments in Article 81 Guardianship proceedings.

 

Ms. Mikkelsen earned her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School, while working full-time at the firm. In addition, during law school, Ms. Mikkelsen interned with the Honorable Matthew J. D’Emic, in the Brooklyn Mental Health Court, and externed for the law school’s Pandemic Employment Relief Clinic. Ms. Mikkelsen also actively participated in the Disability Rights Advocacy Law Student Association where she spearheaded numerous petitions to successfully encourage her law school to create a faculty-run committee to discuss how law school policies impact students with disabilities, and to offer a mental health law course.  Furthermore, Ms. Mikkelsen completed the Health Law & Policy Fellowship, and served as a Student Advisor for other evening students.

 

Prior to joining Abrams Fensterman, Ms. Mikkelsen worked as a Paralegal for five years. She also interned at the Public Defender Service of D.C.’s Mental Health Division. Ms. Mikkelsen received her undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond.

 

Ms. Mikkelsen is eligible for court appointments in Nassau County, Queens County, and Richmond County as Court Evaluator pursuant to Part 36 of the Rules of the Chief Judge of the New York State Unified Court System.

 

Ms. Mikkelsen is admitted to practice in the State of New York. She is a member of the Nassau Bar Association where she is a member of the Mental Health Law and Education Law Committees. She is also a member of the Counsel of Parent Attorneys and Advocates.
