Ammar Chatha serves as a Partner at Abrams Fensterman, LLP, focusing his practice within the firm’s Mental Health Law Practice Group. His legal emphasis encompasses Mental Health and Elder Law, offering guidance to individuals, healthcare institutions, and professionals in various matters. These include Article 9 involuntary psychiatric treatment, retention hearings, Kendra’s Law applications (Assisted Outpatient Treatment), Criminal Defense, and management of Article 81 Guardianship proceedings.
Juris Doctor graduate from St. John’s University School of Law, Ammar Chatha brings a wealth of legal expertise to the Firm. During law school, he held impactful roles such as Judicial Intern for Honorable Arthur J. Cooperman of the Supreme Court of Queens County, intern at the Queens District Attorney’s office, and participant in the Elder Law Clinic and Criminal Defense Clinic with Legal Aid Society. He is also a proud recipient of a bachelor’s degree from the University at Buffalo.
Mr. Chatha is eligible for court appointments across four counties in Guardianship matters as Court Evaluator, Counsel for alleged incapacitated persons, and Counsel to the Guardian.
Bringing extensive experience from previous roles at law firms and as a solo practitioner, where he specialized in Criminal Defense and Family Law across New York City, Nassau, and Suffolk County, Mr. Chatha offers comprehensive legal representation. His expertise spans family law, criminal law, and mental health issues across diverse New York City counties, while adeptly navigating a range of civil litigation cases on behalf of clients.
