David I. Weprin is Of Counsel at Abrams Fensterman, LLP working out of the firm’s Long Island office.
Mr. Weprin has been an elected Member of the New York State Assembly representing the 24th Assembly District in Queens County since 2010.
Prior to that, he was an Elected Member of the New York City Council for eight years where he was the first freshman Chair of the Finance Committee and continued to be Chair for his eight-year career.
Mr. Weprin started his legal career as an Associate at the personal injury/medical malpractice law firm of Julien, Schlesinger & Finz, P.C. after graduation from Hofstra University School of Law.
In 1983 Mr. Weprin was chosen by then Governor Mario Cuomo to serve as Deputy Superintendent of Banks for New York State and Secretary to the New York Banking Board. As part of Mr. Weprin’s tenure through 1987, he was a watchdog of nearly $2 Trillion, regulating more than 3,000 financial institutions and financial service firms in New York State, including international banking institutions, mortgage brokers, and mortgage bankers. As Secretary to the New York Banking Board, he analyzed the condition of Banks and exercised power to approve or disapprove the issuance of bank charters and licenses and the establishment of branch banks.
After leaving the New York State Banking Department in 1987, Mr. Weprin went on to a Wall Street Investment Banking Career in Municipal Finance with major investment banks as a Vice President, Senior Vice President, and Managing Director for over 25 years. Overlapping with that career, Mr. Weprin was chosen by his colleagues to Chair the Securities Industry Association New York District and was also appointed by a former New York City Mayor to be a member of the New York City Tax Reform Task Force.
Mr. Weprin was also a Founding Partner of the Manhattan Law firm of Sieratzki, Ceccarelli & Weprin.
Mr. Weprin is active in a wide array of charitable, cultural, civic, and religious organizations and has received numerous awards from organizations including: the Cross Island YMCA, Young Israel of Jamaica Estates, Young Israel of Holliswood, Yeshiva Har Torah, Queens Center For Progress, and Queens Council For Social Welfare among others.
Mr. Weprin is admitted to practice in the State of New York.
