Jennifer Higgins

Jennifer Higgins is a Trial Partner in the Medical Malpractice Defense Division at Abrams Fensterman, LLP.

With over 20 years of litigation and trial experience, Ms. Higgins defends physicians, physician assistants, nurses, therapists, medical practices, hospitals, and nursing homes in medical malpractice actions.  She manages all phases of litigation, including case inception, discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediation, trials, and appellate advocacy.  Additionally, Ms. Higgins represents healthcare professionals at state licensing board interviews and hearings, in professional misconduct, privileging, credentialing, and disciplinary matters, and in actions claiming general negligence and intentional torts, including sexual offenses.

Before joining Abrams Fensterman, LLP, Ms. Higgins served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Queens County District Attorney’s Office, where she prosecuted and tried a wide range of cases, including domestic violence, sex offenses, and felony crimes.  Thereafter, she worked for 17 years at a firm specializing in the defense of healthcare professionals and institutions.  Ms. Higgins’ ability and tenacity to understand the medicine, coupled with her legal expertise, engender confidence in her clients and promote strong working relationships with them.  She is adept at explaining complex medical issues to juries and has successfully taken numerous cases to verdict.

Ms. Higgins earned a B.S. from Syracuse University and obtained her J.D. from New York Law School, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and was an editor for the Journal of International and Comparative Law.  She is licensed to practice law in the State of New York and in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
