Mary E. Desmond is a Partner at Abrams Fensterman, LLP. working out of the White Plains office. Ms. Desmond represents individuals, municipalities, and businesses in a comprehensive range of environmental, land use and administrative law matters. Her practice includes litigating claims under CERCLA (Superfund), RCRA (hazardous waste), the Clean Water Act, the New York State Navigation Law (Oil Spill Act) and common law, as well as resolving environmental law enforcement actions brought by government agencies. During her career, she has been involved in the cleanup of various types of contaminated sites, including brownfield remediations, drycleaning operations, gasoline stations, landfills, and large superfund sites with multiple PRPs.
She is motivated by her passion for the complex and rapidly changing field of administrative and environmental law, and her dedication to putting the clients’ interests first. Whether it be a Fortune 500 Company or pro bono client, Ms. Desmond strives to obtain the best possible results by providing technically accurate, creative, and efficient legal services.
Ms. Desmond is committed to public service and providing legal services to underserved communities. For example, in 2015, she was recognized for her work providing legal assistance to low-income New Yorkers whose homes were destroyed by Hurricane Sandy with the Pro Bono Publico award from the Legal Aid Society.
Ms. Desmond earned her J.D. from Tulane Law School and later an LL.M. in Environmental Law and Land Use from Pace University School of Law. She earned a B.A. in philosophy from Tufts University.
Ms. Desmond is admitted to practice in the State of New York.
