Sheryl King Richards is an Associate at Abrams Fensterman, LLP. She is a member of the firm’s Elder Law Department.
Ms. King Richards focuses her practice on Medicaid planning. She drafts advanced directives, trusts and special needs trusts, and last will and testaments designed to meet the specific needs of a particular client. Drawing on her background in Social Work, Ms. King Richards assists families through the byzantine process of applying for and maximizing Medicaid benefits, both for community based and institutional based services.
In addition, Ms. King Richards represents clients in Article 81 Guardianship proceedings. She is a certified Article 36 Fiduciary and on the list of the Chief Judge to serve as a Guardian, Court Evaluator and Attorney for Alleged Incapacitated persons.
She has twenty-five (25) years of legal experience. Her experience also includes representing fiduciaries and beneficiaries negotiating and litigating trust/will contests, accountings and similar matters. Her knowledge and experience as an attorney and as a social worker enable her to empathetically counsel and guide clients and their families through the legal process.
Ms. King Richards earned a double major Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work and in Human Development & Family Studies from Kansas State University in 1992. In 1994, she was awarded a Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Kansas. Thereafter, she earned her Juris Doctor from Delaware School of Law in 1997, and an LL.M. in Taxation from Villanova University in 1999. In 1997, she served a term position as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Marvin E. Schlosser, Superior Court of New Jersey.
Ms. King Richards is admitted to practice in the States of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania and is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association.
