We are a vibrant, busy, and growing full-service law firm and looking to increase its talented ranks of staff, by adding a Paralegal with 5+ years of experience in our specific areas of practice (described below) to join our growing Real Estate Department. You will provide overall support to the attorneys’ business needs.

Practice Areas:

 

Our Real Estate Practice Group concentrates on the following types of services to our clients:

  • General counsel to, and transfer agent for, approximately 50 cooperative housing corporations. The candidate must have experience in acting as transfer agent in facilitating the transfer of shareholders’ stock and leases to new purchasers. Experience working with managing agents and coop boards is essential.
  • Counsel to coop and condominium sponsors. The candidate must have experience in drafting basic contracts of sale, have knowledge of offering plans and amendments. Experience in drafting condominium offering plans and amendments to coop and condominium plans would be an extremely positive factor for the successful candidate.  Also important is experience in the review and clearance of title reports, arranging for payoff of mortgage loans and coordinating closings with all parties.
  • Counsel to borrowers for underlying mortgages on multifamily real estate including cooperatives.
  • Counsel to lenders of commercial mortgages. Representation of sellers and purchasers of residential and commercial real estate.

Successful Candidate:

A self-starter with a strong work ethic and organizational skills and client follow through are essential for this position. The candidate must be an exemplary team player who is genuinely interested in working in a supportive and collaborative environment. The candidate must have thorough understanding of reviewing and analyzing title and survey documents, preparing work product relating to that and negotiating title policies in connection with land acquisition and disposition transactions. Must have experience with condominiums and co-ops relating to closings.

Responsibilities:

  • Strong understanding of legal terminology and real estate verbiage.
  • Attend meetings while taking and consolidating notes.
  • Transcribe, proofread, and file legal documents prior to deadlines.
  • Manage travel logistics for one or more attorneys.
  • Answer phones and take messages.
  • Manage schedules.
  • Schedule court depositions, hearings, and other meetings as determined by an attorney.
  • Keep and organize court files.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience.
  • Experience with drafting excel spreadsheets.
  • Great attention to detail, time management, and the ability to prioritize work tasks effectively.
  • Organization and multitasking skills. Collaborative with a can-do attitude and can work well under pressure.
  • Comfortable working with all levels of business professionals, including but not limited to senior management and colleagues in all departments at a fast pace.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Research on databases such as ‘West Law’
  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience

 

Salary:$65k-$85k + Opportunity for bonus/commission
