New York State Department of Health recently expanded the State’s Medical Marijuana Program with the goal of improving patient, practitioner and provider experiences.

 

Major recent developments include:

  • Five additional Registered Organizations are approved to open 20 additional dispensaries within the year
  • Medical Marijuana may now be distributed in topicals and semi-solid product form.
  • Chronic Pain is now a qualifying condition for patients seeking Medical Marijuana use.
  • Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants may now certify patients for Medical Marijuana use.
  • Mandatory practitioner education has been reduced to a two hour course (down from four hours), which may be accessed through TheAnswerPage.com
  • Home Delivery of medical marijuana is now permitted.
  • Telemedicine is approved for patient access to treatment for qualified conditions.
  • Registered practitioners may now consent to be part of a state-wide public directory.

Currently there are 1,263 practitioners and 32,597 patients participating in New York’s Medical Marijuana Program.
