The Neighborhood Buzz, a local magazine based in the Rivertowns of Westchester County, prominently featured Abrams Fensterman Partner David Imamura, celebrating his journey in public service and as a lawyer.
In the feature, David shares his experiences growing up that shaped him as a legislator and an attorney.
“I was very cognizant as a kid that somewhere, someone in Congress spent 20 minutes helping us, and that completely changed my family’s trajectory forever.”
He goes on to explain how his grandfather overcame immigration barriers after surviving 133 days adrift during WWII. Another grandfather fought for America in a Japanese American unit during WWII while Japanese Americans were interned by the federal government, an experience that shaped David’s understanding of both the government’s capacity to help and its potential to harm.
“My family has seen America at both its brightest and darkest moments.”
As a legislator, David has championed multiple pieces of legislation including the Westchester Immigrant Protection Act, the Discriminatory Harassment Law, and the Safety Measures for Survivors of Domestic Violence Act.
“I am given this incredible honor to serve the public. It is on me to maximize that.”
At Abrams Fensterman, David continues his advocacy, representing clients in the first cases brought under the New York State John Lewis Voting Rights Act. His work both at the firm and in public service demonstrate a commitment to justice and equity.
