Our workplace is fraught with the dynamics of interpersonal relationships between lawyer and lawyer, lawyer and employee, and lawyer and client.
This CLE will focus on the meaning and implications of Rule 8.4(g) of the New York Rules of Professional Conduct, which bars discrimination in the practice of law and lays out the requirements of reporting such discrimination, based upon the necessity for diversity in the profession. The panelists will explore the implications of the rule through the use of hypothetical examples of discrimination in the workplace, including:
- Discrimination by lawyers on the basis of disability
- Discrimination by lawyers in hiring and firing
- Discrimination by lawyers on the basis of religion, national origin, or race.
